Cardiocore Senior Scientist To Present at Next Generation Pharmaceutical Summit

Professor Rick Turner, PhD Addresses Integrated Cardiac Safety for Top Biopharmaceutical Executives

Washington, DC – 06.April.2009– Cardiocore, a premier centralized cardiac testing lab, announced that its new Senior Scientist, J. Rick Turner, PhD, PGCE, MICR CSci, MTOPRA, will lead the “Integrated Cardiac Safety; Broadening our Assessment Continuum” workshop at the NGP Summit on April 7th, 2009 in Westlake Village, California. Dr. Turner is an internationally recognized authority in the integration of cardiac safety assessment throughout lifecycle drug development, from molecular biology to post-marketing surveillance. His seven books and 100 journal articles comprise a uniquely comprehensive body of cardiac safety research spanning all major testing modalities—electrocardiography (ECG), Holter monitoring, echocardiography (ECHO), multigated acquisition scanning (MUGA), impedance cardiography, and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM).

Dr. Turner’s presentation will define an integrated approach to cardiac safety research that embraces analyses throughout the drug’s lifecycle development, including medicinal chemistry, nonclinical and clinical development, and postmarketing surveillance. The talk will identify ways that safety concerns arising in one phase may be examined more thoroughly in another phase, and thus be confirmed or allayed. While Dr. Turner’s approach helps clinical trial sponsors identify cardiac liability, it also helps them avoid terminating development programs at the first hint of potential cardiac liability if the drug is a potentially valuable therapeutic agent.

At the NGP Summit, Dr. Turner will distribute his latest book, Integrated Cardiac Safety: Assessment Methodologies for Noncardiac Drugs in Discovery, Development and Postmarketing Surveillance (John Wiley & Sons, 2009), a first-of-its-kind comprehensive overview to the broad range of cardiac safety testing modalities. Details about this important summit and Dr. Turner’s books may be accessed through Cardiocore’s web site at http://www.cardiocore.com.
